Tech EKG Cardiology Gwinnett Duluth, GA


Under general supervision, uses an electrocardiograph to record variations in the action of the heart muscle (EKG) for use in the diagnosis of heart ailments in an out-patient setting. Prepares graphs and reports via the MUSE system for resulting by Cardiologist. Performs various related functions including clerical duties, maintaining equipment and other duties. Responds to emergency situations as required.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Uploads EKG orders to cart worklist.
- Prepares and explains procedures to patient. Reviews patient information using 2 patient identifiers with worklist order and completes remaining required data fields on cart. Applies leads to patient and obtains EKG. Reviews EKG for quality. Deletes poor quality EKG and repeats as needed. Prints EKG for provider review with patient.
- Downloads completed EKG's into MUSE. Completes review of demographic information within MUSE system and routes as per Editor workflow.
- Maintains equipment in operating order and notifies manager of needed repairs. Completes online service request for repairs and tracks completion of requested repair.
- Assists with preparing Holter and Event monitors and placing on patient. Monitors for Holter and Event monitors due for return. Follows up with patients with unreturned monitors. Downloads returned monitors for resulting by vendor. Daily review of vendor website for completed monitor reports. Prints and reviews reports for arrhythmias needing urgent review by provider. Documents disposition of report.
- Maintains a safe and orderly work area.
- Answers telephone as needed and relays messages.
- Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients and other personnel.
- Performs other related duties as required.


Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum one (1) year clinical experience as an EKG Tech (within the last 3 years) in a cardiology setting or hospital.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association must be obtained prior to hire date.

Additional Requirements:
- Completion of basic EKG training course.
- Completion of Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and report artifacts and basic dysrhythmias.
