Laboratory Technician Pueblo West, CO

Works independently & performs a wide range of medical laboratory tests & procedures to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, & prevention of disease. Has knowledge of & adheres to all related regulatory requirements. Reports to the department or facility Laboratory Clinical Manager.
Essential Functions:
- Performs & reports accurate & timely clinical laboratory tests in various sections of the laboratory
- Maintains accurate documentation in accordance w/ accrediting body & laboratory policy
- Analyzes & appraises lab results relative to each other & to the pertinent QA data
- Solves problems & makes independent decisions
- Assists others w/ more difficult procedures
- Recognizes various age-related needs & provides age appropriate care as indicated
- Trains & orients new employees
- Participates in quality assurance activities
- Performs & documents quality control
- Recognizes & resolves variances from normal
- Documents quality improvement activities according to protocol
- Assists clinicians in resolving quality concerns
- Collaborates w/ supervisor to identify, develop & implement process improvements
- Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration & makes minor repairs to instrumentation
- Performs specimen collection procedures & processes specimens for tracking & transport as needed
- Uses personal protective equipment appropriately & demonstrates safe work practices in accordance w/ laboratory & company policy
- Maintains a clean & safe work environment
- Contributes to a cost-effective laboratory operation & helps maintain an adequate supply inventory
- Assists manager in scheduling as needed
- Participates in interviewing & selecting potential candidates for hiring
- Prepares for & participates in the accrediting body inspection process
- Reviews test results in accordance w/ regulatory guidelines
- Oversees point-of-care testing areas & ensures compliance w/ accrediting agencies
- Uses computer systems as required & according to company & departmental procedures
- Has positive customer interactions & demonstrates good service recovery skills
- Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Associate degree & current certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician registered w/ or currently eligible for registry w/ the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or its equivalent
- Must obtain certification within 12 months of hire
- Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
Preferred Skills:
Excellent customer service skills with attention to members. Must be able to draw blood proficiently and work independently with minimal supervision. Must be willing to work at multiple locations including Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, Parker and Centennial. Rotate schedule. Work Holidays/nights/weekends. Float between departments/facilities/locations.
