Nurse Practitioner II Oakland, CA

Essential Functions:
- Provide direct care to patients in the Pre-surgery Department including pre-operative history and physicals.
- Provide patient education and counseling.
- Give advice to patients.
- Provide treatment per approved protocols.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
- Graduate of accredited Adult Health/Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Program.
- BSN required
- Masters Degree.
- BLS Certification.
- Must have a UPIN, or be UPIN eligible, which requires a Masters Degree in Nursing and National Certification from one of the following organizations: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Nurse Credentialing Center; National Certification Corporation for Obstetric, Gynecologic and Neonatal Nursing Specialties; National Certification Board of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Nurses.
- Furnishing license required.
- Current California RNP license required. Must have a Nat'l Provider Identifier, NPI, or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date.
- Minimum of two year family practice experience required.
- One year first surgical assistant experience required.
- Must have completed a surgical rotation in training.
- Must have OR privileges.
- Minimum of two years experience, within the past five years as a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner in a busy acute care setting required.
- Masters degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum of three years experience, within the last five years in diagnosing/treating patients with pre surgery problems.
- Ability and training to do physical assessment, take histories, assess and treat acute and chronic illnesses, assess lab results, and provide health education to patients.
- Demonstrated interest in and sensitivity to the pre-surgery patient population and their needs and experience with case management for these patients and their caregivers/families.
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Must demonstrate a strong customer service orientation.
- Must demonstrate effective communication and organizational skills.
- Must demonstrate, or be willing to develop, knowledge and skills in using patient care/tracking information systems.
- Must simultaneously coordinate multiple issues and priorities while being available to provide direct patient care to patients.
- Must demonstrate good working relations with peers, physicians, and other staff both at Kaiser Permanente and community agencies.
- Must be flexible and skilled at negotiation.

Preferred Qualifications:
- RNFA First Assist

Schedule: Part-Time Regular, 24 hours per week, Day shifts: 9:30am to 6:00pm. This position will be supporting the Perioperative Medicine Department. May be required to work at multiple sites (Richmond, Oakland, Alameda, and Pinole) to support the Perioperative Medicine Department and/or Procedure Room areas.
