Lead Improvement Advisor Anaheim, CA
This position reports to a Senior Vice President, other Senior Area Leader or Performance Improvement Director, supporting the senior management team (eMCAT/MSAT) by identifying, developing and managing a portfolio of performance improvement (PI) initiatives associated with high priority strategic goals sponsored at either the local or organizational level. This position routinely:
ensures status reporting of portfolio of projects; monitors and coaches performance improvement teams; supports the teaching of basic improvement skills to medical center teams and others as needed; identifies and communicates initiative barriers to executive teams for resolution; supports leadership and Unit Based Team (UBT) consultants in order to align performance improvement efforts
with the overall goals of the medical center; and contributes to the achievement of strategic objectives by applying the science of performance improvement.

- Provide support to & liaison with the local executive team in applying performance improvement principles & tools to improve clinical quality, enhance customer service, efficiently provide care, reduce waste & reduce the cost profile.
- Ensure that PI efforts align with the strategic objectives of the medical center & the organization.
- Provide regular updates of the Performance Improvement program, to include the status of sponsored projects & progress toward stated objectives.
- Escalate issues & concerns appropriately & proactively.
- Develop an annual performance improvement plan that outlines priorities, training needs & infrastructure requirements.
- Partner with Local Area Finance Offices to establish & validate the financial impact associated with the improvement efforts.
- Develop & execute a PI program at the local medical center level, ensuring a culture of operational excellence & commitment to continuous improvement.
- Manage a portfolio of performance improvement projects, ensuring that goals, critical path milestones and deadlines are organized, coordinated, & met - while allowing the local operational leaders to maintain process ownership.
- Perform all activities & tasks required to deliver on the aspirations of the annual performance plan, such as building infrastructure, providing training, etc.
- Using 'SMART' (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Reflects Customer Perspective, Timely) goals as a reference, estimate the impact (financial, service, clinical quality, etc.) of performance improvement activities.
- Directly supervise assigned full-time local improvement advisors (IA's) and/or perform 'matrix' oversight duties for part-time IA's.
- Facilitate meetings (e.g., project meetings, IA student meetings, Performance Improvement Steering Committee, etc.) effectively & productively, as required.
- Instill within all improvement team efforts the rigorous use of data, the importance of process/outcome/balancing metrics & the application of data analysis tools to guide decision-making.
- Utilize standard industry tools (e.g., SPC software, MS Project, MS Access, MS Excel) in managing the PI Program.
- Continuously update knowledge & skills.
- Demonstrate proficiency & knowledge in appropriate PI key skills as identified & prioritized by the Juran Institute.
- Develop a training program for IA's based upon their individual & collective needs. Train and coach medical center physicians & other staff as needed.

- Minimum three (3) years of experience in leading complex performance improvement projects, including a demonstrated proficiency in facilitation, change management, and project management.
- Bachelor's degree.
License, Certification, Registration
- Evidence of completion of formal Performance Improvement training (KP Institute IA training, IHI IA training program, Juran, Lean/Six Sigma, Toyota Production System, or equivalent.) and graduation from that program.
- Level of training should be equivalent to the industry standard 'green belt' proficiency, at a minimum.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the history of performance improvement and its key proponents such as Shewhart, Deming and Juran.
- Demonstrated ability to lead professionals and manage others through influence and collaboration.
- Must exhibit the following traits: efficiency, collaboration, candor, openness, and results-orientation.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in performance improvement processes and tools, as well as change management in a complex and dynamic environment preferred.
- Master's degree (MPA, MPH, MBA, etc) preferred.
- Formal PI training to 'black belt' proficiency through a recognized PI accrediting organization preferred.
- Completion of the KP Advanced Institute. Black belt certification based upon successful project completion and sustainable result. (Three (3) story boards of completed work) preferred.
- Demonstrated success in at least one complicated and multifaceted PI initiative, that included spread and sustainability elements preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct and interpret quantitative/qualitative data with analytical problem-solving and the use of statistical
process control (SPC) charts preferred.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise in performance improvement preferred.
- Proven ability and desire to integrate PI principles into work processes preferred.
