Sr. Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician

Under indirect supervision, performs a variety of duties pertaining to installation, calibration, repair & maintenance of electrical, electronic, & mechanical biomedical equipment, following manufacturer's & established preventative maintenance procedures; documents all work.
Essential Functions:
-Troubleshoots & repairs biomedical & laboratory equipment & related systems; assures correct operation of same per manufacturer's specifications, as appropriate/assigned; informs customer of equipment repair status; documents actions taken in accurate & timely manner.
- Performs preventive maintenance, electrical safety checks & equipment calibration on routine basis, in accordance w/JCAHO, CAP, AABB, NFPA99 & manufacturer's specifications, as appropriate/assigned.
- As appropriate/assigned, receives new equipment; performs acceptance checks, in accordance w/manufacturer's specifications; delivers &/or installs equipment to department; in-services customer(s) on proper operation & potential hazardous or safety issues.
- As appropriate/assigned, assures that upgrades, modifications, &/or health device alerts, are properly handled & resolved to improve patient/staff safety or equipment performance; orders & installs hardware needed as appropriate; documents actions/resolutions taken in accurate & timely manner.
- Collaborates w/manufacturer's representative(s) & customers in receiving & installing of biomedical systems or equipment in timely manner.
- Provides resource to customers; liaisons w/outside resources as appropriate; understands & communicates clinical value, use & technology of equipment to customers; assures that user in-service training is provided as requested.
- Participates in job related seminars, service schools & AAMI meetings; provides in-service & cross training to other Biomedical staff members as directed & documents training.
- Troubleshoots & coordinates repair of equipment that has little to no technical documentation.
- Assesses safety control implications (including ECRI alerts, infection control, MSDS & chemical control, fire safety & JCAHO-related programs); takes appropriate action; follows-up on action to assure closure.
- Performs nitriousoxide scanning as scheduled & requested.
- Documents PMs based upon established schedules & guidelines; assures integrity & calibration of test equipment on scheduled basis; keeps lead informed about overall status of PMs, problems & concerns.
- Provides technical support/consultation to other departments outside of Biomedical Engineering (i.e., Maintenance, Radiology & Telecommunications) as requested.
- Demonstrates sufficient knowledge, skills, & abilities in area of specialization.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills, & abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care &/or service.
- Adheres to & maintains current knowledge of Principles of Responsibility, applicable federal & state laws & regulations, accreditation & licensing requirements, policies & procedures; reports &/or resolves issues of non-compliance.
- On regular, sustained basis, cooperates w/other staff members both w/in & outside department in accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting others in accomplishing theirs; serves as team player & role model for other employees in Organization, always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness & respect; conducts oneself in service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful & kind when dealing w/members, visitors, public & all employees.
- Performs other duties & accepts responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).
- Associate's degree in Biomedical or General Electronics. Equivalent combination of education & experience (lesser) may be considered in lieu of requirements.
- Coursework and formal training in anatomy and physiology.
- Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
- Valid driver's license.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency to service levels ofequipment required of CBET.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the following: oral communication, written communication, interpersonal relations, customer service, teamwork, problem solving, and decision making.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Clinical Laboratory Equipment Specialist (CLES) by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the following PC application(s): word processing, spreadsheet, and database.
