<description><![CDATA[<p class="jobLocation">Req Id:  <span>186943</span></p>Cleans, sterilizes, assembles, inspects, stores, and dispenses instruments, equipment, and supplies used in surgical procedures. Operates and maintains washing and sterilization equipment.<br/><br/>Essential Functions:<br/>- Receives surgical instruments following there use and soaks them in a water and chemical solution.<br/>- Pre-washes each instrument by hand to remove visible soil and debris.<br/>- Places instruments into appropriate washer or steam autoclave and sets controls to assure sterilization.<br/>- Inspects, sorts, and places instruments into specified surgical sets according to packaging procedures, labels sets to indicate contents, and places them in storage.<br/>- Removes damaged instruments and equipment from inventory and notifies supply supervisor.<br/>- Prepares documentation to accompany damaged item(s) and packages damaged instruments and surgical equipment for pickup by vendor or contractor.<br/>- Maintains adequate inventory for replacement of damaged instruments.<br/>- Assists operating room staff to select appropriate sets of instruments for scheduled procedures.<br/>- Completes, records, and files biological testing for all sterilizers according to established procedure.<br/>- Advises clinical staff regarding the washing, sterilization, and packaging of instruments and equipment.<br/>- Adheres to all Policies, Procedures and utilizes Manufacturer's Guidelines for the management of all instruments and equipment.<br/>- Performs other related duties as directed.<br><br>Qualifications:<br><br>Basic Qualifications:<br/>- Two (2) years of experience as an instrument processing technician in a hospital setting.<br/>- High school diploma or equivalent.<br/>- Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician or Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required.<br/>- General understanding of aseptic techniques and sterilization methods required.<br/>- Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software required.<br/>- In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak and see required.<br/><br/>Preferred Qualifications:<br/>- Completion of central supply technology course preferred.]]></description>
